New location for Cafe Palestine: Het Goudblommeke in Papier/ La Fleur en Papier Doré

A new year, a new café AND a new location! We are looking forward to meeting you at Het Goudblommeke in Papier/ La Fleur en Papier Doré (‘The golden paper flower’). It is even closer located to the central station in Brussels, so more convenient from people coming from outside of Brussels. It is a place where some of Belgium’s artists, including Magritte, used to meet and discuss the world. We are proud to be joining them and continue our monthly discussions on Palestine at this new historic venue.
On the 7th of January some may still be recovering from the new year’s celebrations so we’ll kick back with a film that hasn’t been shown in Belgium before, and whose theme fits perfectly with our new location. “Mars at Sunrise”, by Jessica Habie (2013, 75’), will make us start 2016 in high spirits and get you inspired. This political fiction portrays the struggle of a Palestinian artist to remain free through the power of creativity and imagination while experiencing the hardships of solitary confinement in an Israeli prison. While in prison, the Palestinian artist develops a love-hate relationship with his Israeli guard, a frustrated artist.

Nieuwe locatie voor Cafe Palestine: Het Goudblommeke in Papier

Een nieuw jaar EN een nieuwe locatie! We kijken ernaar uit om jullie te ontmoeten in het Het Goudblommeke in Papier/ La Fleur en Papier Doré (‘The golden paper flower’). Het ligt nog dichter bij het Centraal Station van Brussel en is dus wat makkelijker voor mensen die van buiten Brussel komen. Het is een plaats waar enkel grote Belgisch artiesten samenkwamen zoals bijvoorbeeld Margritte samenkwamen om over de wereld te filosoferen. Wij zijn trots om daar deel van uit te maken en onze maandelijkse events en discussies verder te zetten op deze historische locatie.
Op 7 januari moeten sommigen onder jullie nog bijkomen van de nieuwjaarsvieringen dus doen we het rustig aan met een film die tot nog toe niet in België werd vertoond, met een thema dat perfect bij onze nieuwe locatie past. “Mars at Sunrise”, van Jessica Habie (2013, 75’), zal voor een goede start zorgen in 2016 en voor inspiratie zorgen. Deze politieke fictie film toont de strijd van een Palestijnse artiest om vrije te blijven dankzij de kracht van creativiteit en verbeelding tijdens de harde ervaringen in eenzame opsluiting. In de gavngenis ontwikkelt de artiest een liefde-haat verhouding met zijn Israëlische bewaker, een gefrustreerde artiest.

Nouvel endroit du Café Palestine: La Fleur en Papier Doré

Une nouvelle année, un nouveau café ET un nouvel endroit! Nous sommes impatients de vous revoir à La Fleur en Papier Doré. Ce café est encore situé plus près de la Gare Centrale de Bruxelles pour ceux qui viennent d’en dehors de Bruxelles. C’est un lieu où certains grands artistes belges comme Magritte avaient l’habitude de se rencontrer et de discuter. Nous sommes fiers de rejoindre cette tradition et de continuer nos discussions mensuelles sur la Palestine dans cet endroit historique.
Le 7 janvier, certains se remettront encore des célébrations de la nouvelle année. Nous recommencerons donc l’année de manière douce avec un film qui n’a pas encore été projeté en Belgique, et qui cadre parfaitement avec notre nouvel endroit. « Mars at sunrise » (litt. Mars au levé du soleil) de Jessica Habie (2013, 75’) nous permettra d’entamer l’année 2016 de manière inspirante. Cette fiction politique dresse le portrait de la lutte d’un artiste Palestinien qui conserve sa liberté à travers le pouvoir de la créativité et de l’imagination alors qu’il vit dans les conditions très difficiles de l’isolement dans une prison israélienne. En prison, l’artiste palestinien développe une relation d’amour-haine avec son gardien israélien, lui-même un artiste frustré.
